Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®
Omega lambda OMega

During the summer of 2014, four members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, on a train ride to the 66th Boule in Charlotte, North Carolina began discussing the phenomenal growth of the North Raleigh Metropolitan area. These four women felt the expansion of the existing service area in and around North Raleigh and Franklin County would foster the growth and outreach of much needed programs and community service.  They held their first planning meeting at the home of Selena Lewis and in attendance were Shema Carraway Jones, Tonja Williams Ervin, and Renetta McEachern.  This group met monthly to better understand the demographics and area growth potential and develop a strategic plan on reclaiming inactive sorors in the North Raleigh and Franklin County Area.

On November 21, 2014, several women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® attended an Educational Advancement Foundation fundraiser at which the Regional Director, Ms. Joyce Henderson, was in attendance.  At the end of the event, the group sat down with Ms. Henderson and expressed their interest in servicing the North Raleigh Metropolitan area.  Under the leadership of Mrs. Shema Carraway Jones, several ladies committed themselves to pursuing the opportunity to serve the community as an AKA interest group.

Under the guidance of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Ms. Joyce Henderson, this group of women submitted the application to become and official interest group of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.  On March 1, 2015, Ms. Henderson notified the group of women that they were approved to operate as an interest group and the group name officially became the Pearls in Partnership with North Raleigh/Franklin County (PPNRFC), with the goal of chartering a new chapter of AKA.

Throughout the eighteen months of operating as an interest group, the ladies of PPNRFC solidified their goal of expanding the existing service of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® as they led the way in sisterhood, scholarship, and service in the North Raleigh and Franklin County communities.  The interest group completed more than forty service projects and programs to support the established program targets of the sorority:  educational enrichment, health promotion, family strengthening, environmental ownership, and global impact.  During the 67th Boule in Atlanta, GA, the Pearls in Partnership with North Raleigh/Franklin County Interest Group was granted approval to charter a new chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. On September 11, 2016 the 27 women of PPNRFC chartered and became Omega Lambda Omega, the 129th chapter of the Mid-Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®
